Situated in the municipal park, Villa Vauban was built at the end of the 19th Century as a residence for a wealthy Luxembourg family. The park was created on land made available in 1867 by the demolition of the Vauban fortifications, after the Treaty of London. This fine building passed to the City of Luxembourg in 1949, and in the 1950s it was the Court of Justice for the European Coal and Steel Community. Since then it has housed art collections.
