The Basilica of St Willibrord
Echternach 6486 - Luxembourg

Map
Echternach is the oldest town in Luxembourg and it was founded by St Willibrord from Northumbria in England. He built a church here to found an abbey about AD 700. The church has been rebuilt several times and the last rebuilding was in the mid 20th Century, after the Second World War, but the crypt is older and contains the marble tomb of St Willibrord and medieval frescoes. The basilica has some fine stained glass and wooden statues about 300 years old of St Benedict and St Willibrord.
