On the border with Belgium, this area of the Ardennes was once well known for its slate quarries which operated between 1750 and 1986. The Haut-Martelange Museum offers two hour guided tours of its eight hectare site, visiting workshops, offices and workers` houses, covering the whole process. There is a lot to see, as there are twenty-four buildings. The site has been given the Henry Ford Price award for protecting nature and the environment.
