The church has Gothic and Romanesque features and is recognised as a national monument. It was built in the early 14th Century by Thomas von Septfontaines. During the 16th Century changes were made to the Romanesque choir and north aisle to accommodate a huge memorial with figures around a tomb. There are stations of the cross. In the churchyard wall are 16th Century headstones. The village of Septfontaines derives its name from the seven springs that converge in the village fountain.
