Kaundorf is a small village situated on a plateau on the northern side of the Lake of the Upper Sure. Nearby, in the forest, a signed footpath leads to an underground bunker used by those who evaded forced conscription by the Nazis. It was restored in 1982 in commemoration of those members of the resistance who helped them. On the edge of the village stands a memorial bomb dropped by a US aircraft on Christmas Day in 1944. It fell into the nearby woodlands.
