Grevenmacher was a fortified town in the Middle Ages and a few remnants of its towers and walls are still standing. Near the Market Place a 26 metres high former watchtower forms the belfry of the parish church. The right to hold markets was granted to Grevenmacher in 1358 and they used to be held in the main street. The lanes and alleyways of this old town have been carefully restored. In the pedestrianised area is a fine bronze statue of an itinerant blind minstrel with his dog.
