Located in the heart of the old fortified city, Place d`Armes is one of the favourite places of both locals and visitors. Originally constructed in the 17th Century, it was used by French troops as a parade ground. There are now lots of street cafes, and a flea market takes place in the square every second and fourth Saturday of the month. On the front of the city hall is a frieze of Countess Ermesinde handing over a charter to Luxembourg citizens in the 13th Century.
