This national monument commemorates the strike begun on the 31st of August in 1942 by the inhabitants of Wiltz against their Nazi oppressors. The strike began in Wiltz in protest of the introduction of forced conscription. It lasted several days.The memorial is in remembrance of those who were killed or sent to concentration camps because of their resistance. Wiltz became known as the Town of Martyrs. Created by sculptor Lucien Wercollier, the monument was erected in 1956.
