The National Library is located in a former Jesuit College, founded in 1603. It was for many years a high school. Since 1970, the building has accommodated the National Library. A collection of around 700,000 volumes of books are housed here and the library regularly receives many local and foreign newspapers and periodicals. There is also a department containing literary and other historic documents. The library is situated near the Notre Dame Cathedrale.
