This massive red steel bridge connects Luxembourg`s old town centre with the Kirchsberg Plateau, home to many modern European institutions. Built in the 1960s, the bridge has a span of 234 metres and crosses to the Pfaffenthal at a height of 80 metres above the River Alzette. Its total length is 355 metres. The bridge is named after the Grand Duchess who ruled 1919 to 1964. At the city end of the bridge is a monument to Robert Schuman, the `Father of Europe`.
