Pilgrims have been coming to Girsterklaus since the early 14th Century to worship at the ancient shrine of the Virgin Mary. The present church was built on the foundations of an earlier church. Since then, the tower has been added. Ancient paintings of twelve saints adorn the vaulted ceiling of the transept. Girsterklaus is about two miles south of Rosport and pilgrimages take place on the first Sunday after the 15th of August.
