The castle ruins tower above the tiny, picturesque village of Esch-Sur-Sure sited on a bend of the River Sure. The 10th Century keep is the oldest part of the castle which is still standing, whilst the defensive walls are 13th Century. There is a watchtower and a Renaissance gateway which date from the 15th Century. Owned by the State from the 1890s, the castle is open to the public.
