Beer drinking is popular in Luxembourg and the tradition of brewing goes back many centuries. Two hundred years ago, there were over 200 breweries in the country, although most were small businesses run by families. Now there are only a few and they produce mainly the light Pils type of beer. The Brasserie Bofferding in Bascharage is the largest brewery in the Grand Duchy. Tours can be arranged of its brewing house and bottling plant.
