Benedictine Abbey
Echternach 6486 - Luxembourg

Map

The huge, baroque Benedictine Abbey was built in the early 18th Century to replace an earlier building. Designed by Leopold Durand from St Avold, it was built by the Mungenast family whose ancestors had been involved in the building of monasteries in Austria. The abbey was dissolved in 1797, and since 1897 it has been a school. Opposite the abbey are the abbey`s gardens with its orangery, rococo pavilion and sculptures depicting the four seasons.
