The place where Wasserbillig now stands was known by the Romans, and they had a harbour here in the 1st Century. North-west of the town, now in the Weiler Forest below the hamlet of Lellig, was a meeting place of Roman roads. A footpath leads to a burial enclosure used in the 1st Century AD. A few hundred metres away are the foundations of a huge burial monument from about 200BC, thought to have been 50 feet high.
