Surrounded by beautiful woodland, yet only about three miles from the city centre of Luxembourg, is the burial place of 5,076 Americans who lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge. Consisting of over 50 acres, the cemetery was established on 29 December 1944. The white crosses form an arch in front of a memorial chapel. Amongst the graves are those of 101 unknown soldiers, and 22 pairs of brothers are buried next to each other. General George S. Patten is also buried here. There is a centre for visitors.
